Typeface Specimen
This class project was designed to familiarize methods of designing a typeface. The objective was to create a monospaced geometric typeface constructed using the TwoPoint System used by MuirMcneil. Digital tools such as Adobe Illustrator and a font editor called Glyphs, were used to design all letters (lowercase and uppercase) and numbers (0-9).
Development
This process started in Adobe Illustrator where I made art boards that were 1000 by 1400 pixels. I made a grid using guidelines to divide the space into 10 columns and 14 rows. I chose to use octagons to construct each letterform. Once the letters and numbers flowed together cohesively, I used the transform each tool to further develop a more unique design. Experimenting with random tool, along with the horizontal and vertical scaling, allowed me to enlarge and manipulate the octagon shapes. This allowed for a more dynamic and expressive typeface to be developed.
